There
has been an estate at 'Herdewyk' dating from 1183 and a manor house
is recorded from 1435. The 1700's, during the ownership of John Burdon,
were glorious days at Hardwick, the place was renowned for its parties,
good living, fine ladies and true gentlemen... Then, in the 1900's,
after a complex history of ownership, the Hall became a maternity
home - the Boardroom was once the delivery suite! Hardwick developed
an institutional blandness and it was from this state that it was
rescued in the late '60's by the present owners. Once an ambling
local hostelry with 'a certain air', Hardwick has now been transformed
into a sumptuously appointed and spacious fifty-one bedroom quality
hotel with outstanding conference and banqueting facilities - The
Coleman Suite.
Just off the A1(M) yet nestling in the beautiful County Durham
Countryside, a warm welcome always awaits visitors. International
standards in comfort and communication are to be enjoyed at
traditional North East value-for-money prices.
Whether your
visit is for business or pleasure, you might sense that parties
and good living will always be part of Hardwick...
